Quinta dos Lagares

Quinta dos Lagares dates back to the time of the Pombaline Demarcations and is part of the renowned terroir of Vale de Mendiz. Its vineyards develop along a natural amphitheater with a stage on the river Pinhão, on slopes that cover all exposures and descend from the plateau at 550 meters of altitude to an altitude of 280 meters.

In addition to this wine heritage at Quinta dos Lagares, which includes old vines with a mixture of grape varieties and ages between 40 and 70 years old, there are also olive groves and Mediterranean scrubland typical of the region, a patch of landscape rich in biodiversity, which is less and less usual in the Douro.

Since 2006, however, with the more dedicated involvement of Pedro Lencart and his wife Isabel Sarmento, the old project of launching wines under their own brand gained new impetus, eventually coming to fruition in 2014, with the guidance of oenologist Luís Leocádio de João Pissarra for Port Wine. Today, the Quinta dos Lagares portfolio includes two reds and two DOC Douro whites, vintage and reserve, a very particular rosé from the Mourisco variety (Marufo), a red from Touriga Nacional, a top-of-the-range red, VV 44, and a Vintage Port. In addition to wines, the Quinta also produces internationally awarded organic olive oil, from olives harvested from the property’s centuries-old olive trees.

Tradition

Quinta dos Lagares

It was only in 2006 when Pedro Lencart and Isabel Sarmento took over the management and gave a new breath to the farm, planting vines and renewing the old ones.
