The Ayres de Mattos branch, originally from and resident in Galafura for more than seven generations, is descended from the couple Francisco Ayres de Carvalho and Maria de Mattos, who lived there in the 17th century and have always dedicated themselves to viticulture.

The Coimbra de Mattos family, having opted for the bottling and marketing of wines produced only with grapes from their properties, set up in 1986 the Society “Aida Coimbra Ayres de Mattos e Filhos, Lda.”, with the status of “wine grower-bottler”, headquartered at Casa da Calçada, Rua da Calçada, Parish of Galafura, in the municipality of Peso da Régua.
